Nathan Goff - Ceramic Artist

Nathan Goff

"I work primarily in handmade tile using a process that starts with carving linoleum molds and pressing them into clay to form raised linework directly in the tile surface. These lines shape the composition and act as physical barriers that hold glaze in place as it pools, breaks, and flows during firing."

Nathan Goff is a ceramic artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina, originally from Arizona. He began working in clay after graduating from West Point and serving five years as an Army officer. Goff is self-taught, developing his skills through independent practice and studio work. He focuses on ceramic tile and wheel-thrown pieces that emphasize texture, structure, and material behavior.

His process involves carved linoleum molds, clay pressing, and varied glazing.

"This kind of work is slow, physical, and rooted in repetition. It's about surface and touch, how something feels as much as how it looks. Working in a fast-paced, often filtered world, I'm drawn to processes that slow me down and keep me grounded in the physical."
